Book Synopsis The Dobama Movement in Burma (1930–1938) by : Khin Yi

Book excerpt: This account focuses on the Dobama Movement, the radical group led by Burmese intellectuals who struggled for their country's unity and independence. Khin Yi focuses on the years 1930 to 1938 and recounts the movement's founding by Thakin Ba Thoung, its phenomenal growth, and its sudden division in 1938 (known as "The Year of Strife"). Though ultimately unsuccessful, the Dobama Movement produced such leaders as the father of Burmese independence, Aung San.
