Book Synopsis Hidden Heritage by : Barbara Marshak

Book excerpt: Adopted as a baby, Paul Summers grew up in the white, middle-class Minnesota community of Worthington. With the discovery of some paperwork in an old desk, he was able to trace his roots to the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, where he came to know his birth family and learned of his Native American heritage. Taking the name of his birth parents (LaRoche), he formed a band, and began to write music that bridges the cultures of both his white and Native American families.
